#GrowTheGame Event Previews #1 Soccer Star – San Diego

With the #GrowTheGame San Diego Pilot fast approaching, Soccer Support will be previewing each of the five major events being held across the city on Saturday 14 & Sunday April 15.

The first of these previews is of arguably the most talked about project so far Soccer Star – San Diego.

Soccer Star – San Diego is an online reality TV show which showcases local soccer talent, local clubs/businesses and the City of San Diego.

All aspiring pro soccer players have been invited to follow their dreams by taking part in this web reality TV show with the free try-outs taking place on the #GrowTheGame weekend and prior to the big NPSL  home clash between the San Diego Flash and cross-city rival San Diego Boca.

The ultimate winner of the Soccer Star web series will win a training contract with the 2011 NPSL South-West Champion San Diego Flash Soccer Club whose Head Coach is former English National Team, Newcastle United star and also Fox Soccer Channel analyst; Warren Barton. On word of Coach Barton, in June 2011, Flash Player Ryan Guy was signed to New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.

With this recent example still on the tip of local soccer hopeful’s tongues, the winner will be offered a very real stepping to the MLS by becoming ‘San Diego’s Soccer Star 2012’.

So that’s a quick overview of the event but the majority of fans have been asking how will it work? What are we to expect and when will we see the series in full?

From this weekend’s trials 16 players will be selected to move on to the main part of the 9 webisode series. Filming will occur over May/June with the series to be release weekly online at the Soccer Star – San Diego Official YouTube Channel.

The series will see players compete through a series unique skills challenges and educational elements, followed by matches against local soccer teams which will help identify every important quality a professional player must demonstrate to make it to the top.

Soccer Star – San Diego is one of #GrowTheGame’s most innovative and dynamic projects and will instantly appeal to the nation’s fascination with reality TV shows and the constantly growing sport of soccer (with appearances from Warren Barton creating huge interest within this demographic).

Registrations are still being accepted for the one-day trial to be held this Saturday, April 14. The competition is open to permanent residents of the U.S. and participants must be aged between 18-23 as of January 1, 2012. Soccer is not a new niche market, it is an extensive network of fans, players, officials and administrators that equate to approximately 25 million people and we here at Soccer Support hope to create yet another project which will appeal to each and every one of them. Soccer Star – San Diego is one of those ‘Rocky-esque’ productions that show it’s never too late to make it just as long as you still harbor those dreams of making it happen.

On Saturday we will have the pleasure of seeing the start of one player’s journey, who we are sure will be determined to make it happen…
