#GrowTheGame Event Previews #2 – Local NPSL Showcase: San Diego Flash vs. San Diego Boca

With the #GrowTheGame San Diego Pilot fast approaching, Soccer Support will be previewing each of the five major events being held across the city on Saturday 14 & Sunday April 15.

A coordinated weekend of activities by the soccer community will help the sport grow in a number of ways including exposure to new players and sponsors, networking with other clubs to share best practice and providing platforms for junior clubs to link with the highest levels of the game in San Diego, inspiring the future generation of players in the process.

The second event to be previewed this week takes an in-depth look at the upcoming NPSL local derby between the San Diego Flash and San Diego Boca. Local soccer fans are encouraged to come along to watch our two local pro teams battle it out for local bragging rights – a must see NPSL blockbuster!

#GrowTheGame supporters will receive a voucher for 50% off admission – To be posted here in the next 48 hours!

These two cross city opponents are starting to build an intriguing rivalry and this Saturday should see another hard fought chapter in this short but lively history between the two clubs.

Both teams opened the 2012 NPSL season undefeated, as SD Flash notched a 4-0 win vs FC Hasental and San Diego Boca FC played out a 2-2 draw with Santa Clarita Storm on Saturday, April 7. Flash look to repeat their 2011 West-Southern Conference title, while Boca hope to improve on their 2011 record.

There is no denying that both teams have a point to prove and with the Flash still reeling from a late Boca winner in the 2nd qualifying round of the U.S. Open Cup three weeks ago – the passion has never been higher.

The Flash vs. Boca game is just one of the major events happening that afternoon at Del Norte High. With the Soccer Star – San Diego trials taking place at 1pm and a junior march past scheduled just prior to kick-off, there is no doubt that if you love your soccer in San Diego then there is no better place to be this weekend than in North County.

With the SD Flash embracing not only the #GrowTheGame campaign but also Youth Soccer Clubs across the County, they announced last week that they would be organizing the 1st Annual Flash Junior March at their upcoming home game against Boca (similar to when Countries march across the Stadium during the Opening of the Olympic Games).

This showcase of Americas largest youth market is just one of the ongoing grassroots projects of the rapidly growing San Diego Flash Youth Soccer Club Network.

In what will be a historic step forward in fostering a real soccer ‘community’ in San Diego, every youth soccer club has been encouraged to attend the march, gain extra exposure for their teams and have their players share the field with the Flash.

The youth players and their parents are invited to attend the game for free.

Flash CEO Clent Alexander summed up the event with some choice words.

“This event is about celebrating local soccer and giving young players the opportunity to interact with those that play at the highest levels of the sport here in San Diego. Sometimes there is a disconnect from the ranks of junior to senior soccer and anything we can do to bridge that gap is a step in the right direction for the sport.

“Small gestures such as this will provide stronger links and pathways for youth players to maintain their passion for playing the sport of soccer for the future. You never know, the next Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Ronaldo or Messi might be playing right here in San Diego!” Alexander said.
